جمبودیپ , ਜਨਬੋਦੀਪ, جنبو دیپ۔ جمبو دیپ , تیسری صدی قبل مسیح میں اشوک نے اپنی سلطنت کی نمائندگی کے لئے جنبو دیپ (جسے جنبو سند بھی کہا جاتا ہے) کی اصطلاح استعمال کی تھی۔دیپ، جس کا مطلب قدیم ہندوستانی نظریہ تخلیق میں "جزیرہ" یا "براعظم" ہے۔ لفظ جنبو دیپ سے مراد "جنبو درختوں کی سرزمین" ہے، لفظ جنبو سنسکرت میں ”جامن کے درخت” کے لئے استعمال کیا جاتا ہے اور یہ درخت پورے ایشیا میں پائے جاتے ہیں۔بدھ مت کے پیروکار اس اصطلاح کو ہندوستان تک محدود رکھتے ہیں ، جبکہ جین اسے، ہندوستان کے پانچ حصوں میں سے ایک تک محدود رکھتے ہیں۔ 'Jambudipa' ('Jambudvipa', Northern Hemisphere of the earth, name of one of the seven Continents or large islands surrounding Mount Meru), one of the four 'Mahadipas', or great continents. 'Jambudipa' is also known as 'Jambusanda'. The term is based on the concept of 'dvipa' ('deepa'), meaning "Island" or "continent" in ancient Indian cosmogony. The term 'Jambudvipa' was used by Ashoka to represent his realm in the third century BCE. The word 'Jambudvipa' literally refers to "the land of 'jambu' trees (Syzygium cumini)", which covers whole Asia.
